Bee-utiful Crazy

For those of you not in the Midwest, we have been receiving more than enough rain for everyone.  It’s been hard to find a dry enough day and/or ground to work the fields.  I had to resort to taking a day off from the day job so I could stay home and catch a dry spell to plant (darn).  As of now it appears we are in for another week long episode of rain going into this weekend again.  Talk about a downer for the first year of flower farming, but you can’t have rainbows without the rain, right?  Eventually we will have flowers, but right now we are at the mercy of mother nature.  A hoop house is definitely on the list as our first big purchase so weather isn’t such a factor.

For some good news, the bees arrived yesterday! I am looking forward to them working my flowers and growing their colonies so we can have some honey next year.

I owe a big shout-out to my father-in-law at Lone Cottonwood Farm for building our nucs and delivering them.  It will be hard to fail with having such a great beekeeping mentor on speed dial. Stay tuned and until next time, try to stay dry.
